Basketball Stars arrives in Singapore!
I attended the Philips Singapore Cup 2006 (Basketball) earlier this evening. It's a rare opportunity for those of us who live in Singapore to have this opportunity to witness 4 top teams of world basketball in one venue. Spain, Slovenia, Serbia and Argentina was in town to jam and BBall fans turned out in force! Fans of all shapes, sizes and colour turned out for this tournament. Spot the big fan...
Anyway... the intensity was very high and the skillz displayed was really world class. I've never been to a NBA game and being the fan of the game for so long, I simply could not pass this opportunity to lap the game up with fellow fans.
They even had a Singapore All Stars team which....I won't talk about them here.
Several NBA players were playing for their countries. The 2 most well known to the public here were Manu Ginobili (Argentina) and Pau Gasol (Spain). The truth is that their teams were made up by many good players who aren't well known but what the heck, the crowd loved them!
All in all the night was a great night enjoyed by everyone. I wasn't able to take photos of players in action because they'd be just a blur.
There's one more day tomorrow to enjoy their presence here and after that they'll be heading to Japan to compete for the World Championship. Once upon a time, Team USA was undefeatable in this game but after years of development of this game around the world in numerous countries, many have caught up. They're no longer considered instant winners. Serbia are the current World No.1 and the Argentinian team are the current Olympic champions. Don't you just love a global game like that!
I'm going to work on my dribbling and shooting tomorrow! As if... :)
