Happy Birthday Virus!
This month, 20 years ago, the first virus was created. It was aptly called Brain and was written by 2 Pakistani brothers. Yes, the first virus discovered was written by Asians!
The programme was written to discourage people from copying their software illegally. How did the IT fellas discover it was written by them? Don't forget, the Internet didn't exist back then. They wrote their name and contact number inside! The idea was that if you got infected, you had to call them so they could come and "heal" your system. Ingenious.
For the techies, here is some more information on Brain. Nowadays we've not only viruses, they family has grown to include spyware, malware, spam, the list goes on and on. Happy Birthday Virus, you've really made our lives better! Not!
